Programs

The United Way family works hard towards Advancing the Common Good. United Way of West Central Mississippi mobilizes a variety of resources in our communities – through people, time, talent, relationships, expertise, technology and financial support to create lasting changes in community conditions that improve the lives of the residents of West Central Mississippi.

United Way Worldwide has set national goals to represent United Way’s commitment to reverse the trends showing the basics of a good life are increasingly beyond the reach of too many children and adults. These indicators are a stake in the ground - a call to everyone to join us in making significant progress during the next decade!

EDUCATION

United Way of West Central Mississippi works to improve the graduation rate in our communities by collaborating with our partner agencies and other community organizations to provide kindergarten readiness programs, early literacy programs, character building programs at the elementary school level, teen mentoring programs, intensive speech/language/hearing programs, after-school tutorial programs, early intervention programs, and educational summer camps. To compliment these efforts, we also fund programs that support development/employment related training to the handicapped population and programs that strengthen parenting skills.

FINANCIAL STABILITY

United Way of West Central Mississippi empowers people to get on stable financial ground.   We do this by collaborating with our partner agencies and other community organizations committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through internship opportunities, workforce assistance training, emergency assistance for rent and utilities, affordable housing, sliding scale access to daycare, mental health and medical services.

HEALTH

United Way of West Central Mississippi is building healthier, more resilient communities by promoting healthy eating and physical activity, expanding access to quality health care and integrating health into early childhood development.  We do this through collaborating with our partner agencies and other community organizations to provide programs that highlight healthy eating, encourage exercise, promote early health screenings, provide senior services, offer shelter and programs for the abused, provide crisis counseling and offer affordable health care; while always offering the opportunity for family to make healthy and proactive choices.

SUPPORT SERVICES

United Way of West Central Mississippi partners together with our partner agencies and other community organizations to provide the most basic needs of food, shelter and safety, targeting such issues as supplemental nutrition and feeding, disaster preparedness/relief, shelter for women and children experiencing domestic violence and homeless prevention services.
