Are you ready to paint the town and make a difference?

That’s right! United Way of West Central Mississippi is making preparations for our second annual ‘True Color Run.’  On September 17th, we invite you to join us before 8:00 A.M on the corner of Washington and Jackson Street at our local Farmers’ Market Lot. We highly encourage you to arrive early for this event. With hundreds of participants coming, you will want to avoid the rush before the race. You can pick up your packet the week of the race at the United Way office 920 South Street between the hours of 9 A.M.-4 P.M.

Bright colors and great fun covered the streets of downtown Vicksburg last year. We had over 800 participants from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas, with over 250 volunteers. The 2015 True Color Run raised over 20,000 dollars with all proceeds being donated directly to our 22 partnering agencies that advance the common good in the areas of Education, Health, and Financial Stability. To know the community came together in such a big way to ensure the success and sustainability of our partnering agencies, while having such a great time, was remarkable.  We had over 135 visitors to our city on this day and we are proud to say that they saw the TRUE spirit of Vicksburg.  We came together to gain a better understanding of the needs of others, and to generate a desire to become a part of something much larger than a color explosion.   It is with a huge heart that we thank each of you for embracing the United Way of West Central Mississippi and wanting us to paint our town again.

This year's run will be even more COLORFUL. The run, like last year, is our campaign kickoff event. This is an opportunity for everyone to come together and advance the common good in our community, and have fun doing it. We are looking forward to painting the town together as a community! Our purpose behind the True Color Run is to have a fun event that will bring the community together and have them experience United Way and our partner agencies.

Why a color run? We all know it is fun; however, we want it to be a visually meaningful event for all.  Each one of our agencies has chosen a color that represents their mission. When you run through purple, you are supporting domestic violence victims.  When you run through blue, you are supporting a safe place for children.  When you run through lime green, you support counseling services for families. Each color that you will be running or walking through has a meaning. Each color, each agency serves a purpose in our community that helps to make where we live, work, and play a better place. Again, all proceeds from registration fees will be going directly to our 21 partner agencies providing services in Warren, Sharkey, Claiborne, Issaquena, Yazoo, and Madison Parish. So when you or your team signs up to run in the “True Color Run,” you are in turn supporting programming in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Health. The school that has the largest team register for this event will win a cash reward for their school's library. We are excited about our after-party which will be held on the Vicksburg Farmers’ Market lot. Expect a lot of color, family-friendly music and a great time to just celebrate what it means to LIVE UNITED.
