Education
Helping Children, Youth and Adults Achieve Their Potential.
United Way in Action…
Here are just a few examples of United Way’s impact on our community:
- 161 adults were able to attend the Good Shepherd Community Center GED Program to get prepared to take the GED. 110 of those adults had a grade level improvement of their skills and 47 adults were ready to take the GED.
- 183 youth are being taught leadership, teamwork and character development through local programs of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
- 213 at-risk students have found a safe summer camp where they receive positive guidance, academic and life shills and recreational activities through the Central Mississippi Prevention Services, Summer Leadership Camps.
- MIDD-West Work Center provides a sheltered work training program for 70 mentally retarded adults (16+) of Warren and Claiborne Counties. Other disabled categories are also served.
- Families throughout Warren County are using the YMCA after-school “Primetime” Program and the “YMCA Summer Day Camp” as a way for their children to participate in structured programs that include study time, snacks, crafts, games and other organized activities; instead of going home to an empty house with no adult supervision.
